ABOUT PHYLLIS

Phyllis Ferrara is an American contemporary abstract artist. She developed a fascination with nature while being raised along the Southern California coast. Her intrigue with the ocean and unique cliffsides inspired her distinctive style. Ferrara's artwork, a joyous combination of emotive shapes and intense color, combines plein air, fauvism, and impressionist techniques.

Ferrara's artistic style emerges from her passion for life, evolving light, and fluidity with color. These expressions range across her collections of Dreamscapes, Abstracts, Horizon Lights, and Miniatures.

Phyllis was always certain that she would be an artist. In 1980, Phyllis graduated from the Pasadena Art Center College of Design with a degree in illustration. She went on to study with acclaimed Russian painter, Sergei Bongart. Abstract expressionist, Saul White, impacted Ferrara’s work as well. While sharing a studio space with him, Phyllis grew inspired to incorporate a new collage technique into her painting style. With new influences, her creative path led to unexpected opportunities.

As an illustrator, Phyllis worked on the animated version of The Lord of the Rings. Later, she learned the art of textile design while in Italy. Bringing her new talent home to Palos Verdes, CA, she opened a successful textile design studio. Phyllis shared her beach wear and sportswear collections with manufacturing companies in New York, Hawaii, and California.

Today, Phyllis's art is a culmination of her longevity within the arts and experimentation with new styles. In her most recent work, she further explores her passion for light, color, and texture.
